American  Patriots  Coalition

If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization,
it expects what never was and never will be. -- Thomas Jefferson

What is the American Patriots Coalition?

The APC is an informal non-partisan association of individuals and organizations who believe our country has gotten off track, particularly over the past four years; that we have neglected vital health care, environmental and educational programs and in so doing have jeopardized our children's future.

What is the APC doing?

We are reaching out to all Americans, regardless of political affiliation, and reminding them that before all else, we are Americans first. Through a series of high-impact television messages to air this fall, we are urging all Americans to stand up against the corruption and malfeasance that has taken over our governing process. We are urging all Americans to register and to vote, to elect leaders who will get our country back on track again

Why it matters?

For the past four years, we have shown some of the worst of America. We have lied to the world about our reasons for invading Iraq. We have diverted precious resources from the war on terrorism. We have squandered the universal support we had after Nine-Eleven. At a time when we need most to work together with the world community, we are estranged even from long-time allies, and this has left us increasingly vulnerable to new terrorist attacks. Meanwhile, pollution controls have been relaxed, more than 40 million Americans lack basic health coverage, our schools can't compete with the other developed countries and one in five of our children lives in poverty.

Taking back the flag...

Just as during the Vietnam War, the supporters of the Iraq invasion have made allegiance to their war a litmus test of being a patriotic American. But that's not what patriotism is about. In truth, being a real patriot means staying informed about the policies conducted by the government in our name. We should support those policies when they are just, but stand in opposition to them when they are wrong. That's the essence of a healthy democracy.

Our Country Right or Wrong...

Our Country! In her intercourse with foreign nations may she always be in the right, but our country, right or wrong. -- Stephen Decatur
I can never join with my voice in the toast which I see in the papers attributed to one of our gallant naval heroes. I cannot ask of heaven success, even for my country, in a cause where she should be in the wrong....My toast would be, may our country always be successful, but whether successful or otherwise, always right. -- John Quincy Adams
Our country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. -- Carl Schurz

From our Declaration of Independence...
"When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation." Indeed, it is time for us to break free from the corrupt bonds of special interests and become an honest nation again.

Patriotism

From our historic roots...
The Articles of Confederation on which our Constitution was based was taken in part from the ways of the Iroquois. They had some useful ideas. The Iroquois were a tribe comprised of six nations. When two of their nations had an issue that need to be resolved, the matriarch of the two nation would appoint a chief to sit down with the other and figure on the best way to resolve it. They did not barter as we do today. One didn’t say you can fish in my river if I can hunt in your woods. Instead, they had to make their decision based on a single criterion: whatever the resolution, it had to benefit the sixth succeeding generation. They had to get it right. Can you imagine our governments making decisions on that basis?
